£11m Leeds United flop’s summer future on the line after latest developments

Leeds United are three points clear of the relegation zone and are looking to plan for next summer while trying to ensure they stay in the Premier League.

The Whites are keen to secure their top-flight status as soon as possible. The club want to start work on their plans for the next summer transfer window.

Leeds already have plans to bring in a new number one goalkeeper, and are again prepared to invest in their midfield with Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney on their radar.

However, the club need to move on players from their books to clear up their wage bill, and they have a fresh complication to solve around a player who does not have a future at Elland Road.

Leeds are wary as Max Wober is injured again

Max Wober joined Werder Bremen on loan last summer as he had no future at Leeds under Daniel Farke, who was keen to move him on permanently.

Leeds were hopeful that the Austrian defender would do enough in Germany to secure a permanent move away from Leeds next summer.

However, Wober has featured just once this season and has been out with a hamstring injury for almost the entirety of the campaign thus far.

He has suffered a fresh setback and is expected to be out for another five to six games after suffering a muscle tear.

Journalist Sebastien Vidal has claimed that the injury is more serious than previously anticipated, and he is set for another spell on the sidelines.

Wober has not played a single minute of football in the Bundesliga and was only fit to be in the matchday squad for one fixture in the entire season.

With another spell on the sidelines, Leeds will have a major problem to solve when Wober returns to Elland Road in the summer.

Leeds need him to move on

Wober has been a disastrous signing for Leeds. However, he still has more than a year left on his contract with the club.

With his injury issues this season, there is no chance that Werder Bremen will consider signing him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

He is almost certain to return to Leeds, where he has no future. The club and the player are keen to part ways in the next summer transfer window.

However, his injuries and the wage demands, coupled with Leeds’ expectation to get a fee, would make it harder for the club to shift him.

Leeds may have to bite the bullet and agree to terminate his contract to allow him to find a new club as a free agent.
