£12M first team star tipped for Elland Road exit – Leeds United need to act fast

This summer is set to be make or break for some Leeds United players. Moving to the Premier League is a big deal, and not every player in the squad will make the jump.

Leeds have already started identifying some players they will move on from later this summer. Illan Meslier and Max Wober are among a host of names that will be on the transfer market this summer. With the Whites planning to add some serious quality, some other names may find themselves down the pecking order on the team sheet.

Daniel Farke and the recruitment team now have some serious decisions to make this summer.

One player whose future is undecided is Mateo Joseph. The youngster has attracted interest from Strasbourg and Real Betis this summer. With reports that the Spanish side are keen on a move.

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has now had his say on Mateo Joseph’s future at Elland Road:

“He’s not been able to do that [be a mainstay] in the Championship. It is then a calculated gamble. Will he be great in two or three years? Possibly. Can that come back to bite you on the backside? 100% it can.” he said speaking to the Yorkshire Post.

Mills then suggested that Joseph would be the easiest player to sell for PSR profit this summer.

“If he’s not going to play, if he’s not going to be in the starting XI for 50% of the games, is that a player you can sacrifice? Probably yes, is the answer. Struijk and Gnonto are more likely to [play],”

Joseph is currently with the Spanish U21 side at the European Championships.

Leeds should rethink Joseph sale

Mateo Joseph has huge promise and potential. He even showed it when he had limited minutes this past campaign. The interest from European club clearly shows a player worth making the move for. Leeds need to relax and figure out the future for the forward.

Ideally, they need to figure out a way to keep him around for the future instead of selling him outright. Maybe a loan deal, or a transfer with a buy back clause could be required.
