£14m striker decides on Elland Road transfer as Jorgen Strand Larsen plan becomes clear

Martin Baturina

Joel Piroe finished as the top scorer in the Championship for Leeds United last season. He lead the line as the club managed to score over 90 goals and eventually lifted the league title on the final day.

However, as soon as the season ended fans were already excited at the prospect of new players coming into the team. Club chiefs had already promised a big transfer window aimed at adding quality to the squad ahead of their Premier League return. Many in the fanbase saw players like Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson as the main names that would be replaced with incoming arrivals.

And so far this season, while some of the new signings have excelled, some players who were regulars last season have managed to keep their place in the team. Brenden Aaronson, who many tipped to replace, has now become an integral part of the team as the season progresses.

£14m Leeds United man decides on Elland Road transfer

Joel Piroe did not experience the same fate; the striker has been relegated to the bench for most of the season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, who joined in the summer, are now way ahead in the pecking order. Daniel Farke explained that in the Premier League his side see less of the ball, and thus the striker’s skill set is not a great fit. Piroe has found himself limited to cameos, and recently played 89 minutes in the FA Cup against Derby County. This month, many rumours emerged that the 26-year old could leave the club.

TEAMtalk have now confirmed that Piroe has no plans of leaving Elland Road in January. It is reported that Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town got in touch with the player, but he rejected their advances.

Jorgen Strand Larsen stance now clear

It has been reported on Thursday that Crystal Palace are on the verge of completing a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Leeds United have been keen on a deal for the past few weeks, but it looks like they lost out. Wolves rejected an initial bid because it did not meet their initial £40 million valuation. Now, it looks like the 49ers will miss out on a huge target like they did in the summer transfer window. Fans will be furious that they failed to close this deal.
