£15M Leeds man has already been ‘dismissed’ ahead of Bournemouth game

There are a lot of reasons for Leeds United fans to have optimism at this point of the season. Seven points in the first five games of the season sees the club in 12th place on the Premier League table.

And on the pitch, the results have shown that the Whites can be a formidable opponent. They created a lot of chances in their opener against Everton, but failed to score and they managed to keep out a dangerous Newcastle United side.

The 3-1 win over Wolves has shown the biggest signs that the attack is starting to click under Daniel Farke.

Outside the unfortunate 5-0 defeat to Arsenal, Leeds have let in just three goals this season with one of them being an own goal from Gabriel Gudmunsson. The back four have been solid, with Rodon and Struijk continuing their success from last season. Jon Newsome does not think £15million summer signing Jaka Bijol is ready to replace either of the current center back pairing:

“I don’t know why you’d give Bijol a game. I know you’ve paid big money for him.

“What are you going to do – drop Struijk or Rodon? I think the centre-backs have been great this season.

“Okay, Arsenal. But I think they were massively exposed. No, I don’t think I would [bring Bijol in],”

Daniel Farke explained why Jaka Bijol has barely played this season

In Thursday’s press conference before the Wolves game, Daniel Farke addressed why Bijol had not seen much playing time this season:

“I’m 100 per cent convinced of Jaka but it’s not like there is a name in the starting line-up just because of his transfer fee.

“It’s about what happens on the training pitch. I liked Jaka a lot in pre-season but he was not available for Everton.

“The final one or two pre-season games you go for the line-up you’d play and so Jaka missed major parts of the last two friendlies.”

The defender’s only game has been in the EFL Cup against Sheffield Wednesday, when Leeds were knocked out.

“For Jaka, first outing in the cup was difficult. Perhaps not the most convincing game. He’s a really good player, mid to long-term very important for us.”
