£16M Serie A star opens up on future amidst Leeds United links – move could be done this summer

Leeds United are now lining up a huge move after the latest development at the club over the weekend. A first team star has made a shock admission over his future.

Max Wober made a rare start for Austria in their World Cup qualifier against Romania. The defender played 69 minutes in the win, but his comments after the game made the headlines. According to him, Leeds have been pushing to try and sell him.

This could explain why he barely featured in games this past season. Even though injuries plagued him, his return to action in January only saw him get a total of 145 minutes till the end of the campaign.

It looks like Leeds have lined up a replacement for the Austrian already. TMW have reported that the Whites are in talks with Udinese over a deal for Jaka Bijol. The 26-year old has impressed in his last two seasons in Italy. Udinese will reportedly be looking for a fee around £16million to complete a deal.

Bijol added more fuel to the speculation of a potential exit this week. He spoke to Gianlucadimarzio.com over his future, stating that he is ”ready for the next step”.

“We are talking about a truly big club, but these are just rumours and there are always plenty of those in Italy. It is also true that I feel ready for the next step, we’ll see if it happens this summer or not,”

“You can never tell in football. I am grateful to Udinese and very happy here, but I would like to make that step up.”

“No, I do not. At the end of the summer, I might still be an Udinese player. We’ll see what happens, nothing can be taken for granted in football.”

Bijol could end up being a bargain

£16million for a defender of Bijol’s quality might end up being a steal. He has been a standout at club level, and was very impressive at EURO 2024 with Slovenia.

Most importantly, he could end up being a direct replacement for Max Wober, who looks on his way out of Elland Road.
