Leeds United made their first priority this summer the renewal of Ethan Ampadu. The club captain signed a new long term deal to remain at Elland Road.

Club chairman Paraag Marathe said the deal was to show everyone that Leeds have ambition. Theyy now have their captain tied down long term, showing they are willing to keep him despite interest.

When it comes to possible transfers, there has been little that has emerged from Elland Road.

The last report from club sources indicated that the team was still putting together a list of potential transfer targets.

So far, many players have been linked with a move to Leeds, but none of them are yet to materialize.

£18.5m agreement opens door for Leeds United move

Leeds United know the current situation of the first team going into next season. The Whites have some players out of contract at the end of this month, especially when it comes to the goalkeeping department.

Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Illan Meslier are all out of contract this month. It has been reported that Darlow has a contract offer, with interest from other Premier League clubs.

Nick Pope is a name that has been linked to Leeds in the past few weeks. Reports suggest that the Newcastle United keeper is high on the Whites’ list ahead of next season.

His future at St. James’ Park has been up in the air as the summer goes on; it was reported this week that the Magpies have asked him to report for the upcoming pre-season.

Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for £18.5 million this week per Sky Sports. This opens the door for Leeds to move for Pope in the coming weeks.

The latest on Lucas Perri

While the futures of Darlow, Cairns and Meslier have not been resolved yet, Lucas Perri could also find himself in a difficult spot this summer.

This week has seen reports emerge that Leeds could consider selling the Brazilian.

So there will be a shakeup in the Whites’ goalkeeping options ahead of next season.

It will be unfortunate for Perri to be shipped out after his first season, but how he performed last year was underwhelming. He came in as a big money signing and has failed to deliver.

The 49ers need to sort out the club’s goalkeeping situation before August.
