£19m Leeds United ace shines in return against Everton – Daniel Farke’s gamble paid off

Leeds United

Leeds United have perfectly positioned themselves in the Premier League as the year has began. Daniel Farke’s side know what they have to do to keep their heads above water till the end of the season.

Since December, the Whites have played some impressive football and gotten some very good results. This team is a far cry from the one that went on a losing run a couple of months ago. And the main changes have been tactical; with Farke now picking teams better based on the opponent.

The 49ers have stepped in this month, looking to add quality reinforcements to help the team see out the rest of the season. Facundo Buonanotte was the first arrival at Elland Road, while Leeds have spent the last few days in talks to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Daniel Farke made right call on Leeds United man

On Monday night, Leeds United faced Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The two sides met at the start of the Premier League season, which ended in a narrow 1-0 win decided by a Lukas Nmecha penalty. This time around, the match ended in a stalemate with both teams sharing the points. The game saw Anton Stach make a return to the lineup after he recovered from a knock.

He only returned to training days before the match, and Daniel Farke gambled on starting him. It paid off as the German midfielder provided the assist for James Justin’s opener against Everton. Even though the match ended in a stalemate, everyone felt that the Whites should have left with all three points.

Leeds need to learn how to finish games

Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen were among the pundits who felt that Leeds should have sealed the result on Monday night. What happened against Everton has been a regular theme all season – sometimes the Whites fail to capitalize and win games. This is down mostly to the poor finishing from the players – Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a clear chance late in the game, but fluffed his lines and Everton equalized later in the game.

From now till the end of the season, if the Whites really want to guarantee safety, they need to learn how to wrap up games. It has cost them too many times this campaign.
