Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto believes that signing the new contract in the summer seemed like a fresh start for him at Elland Road and he is now keen to add consistency to his game.
Everton were interested in signing the winger in the last transfer window but Leeds rejected an offer from the Toffees and kept hold of the Italy star.
Unlike last year, Gnonto didn’t agitate for a move and he signed a new four-year contract with the club over the summer to signal his intent of wanting to stay at Leeds.
Daniel Fakre has resolved his differences with the player and the winger has started all of Leeds’ opening six Championship fixtures this season.
He has again established himself as an integral part of the team this season after being in and out of the starting eleven in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Leeds United star admitted that the new deal signalled a fresh start for him at the club
Leeds were happy to tie down the winger to a new contract in the summer after losing big players such as Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter.
Gnonto also conceded that the new deal was huge for him as it felt like a fresh start at Elland Road after last season’s difficulties.
The winger is now eyeing adding some consistency to his game and believes he has the quality in him to regularly impact games for the Yorkshire giants.
“I think it is really important”, he told BBC Radio Leeds when asked about the importance of the new contract.
“This season, I really want to find the type of consistency that I feel like I missed in the past.
“The deal feels like a fresh start for me and I feel like I can build from it.
“I know that I have the quality to consistently help the team and impact games.”
Gnonto is likely to start when Leeds United take on Coventry City in the Championship on Saturday.
