£20m midfielder shares his honest thoughts on joining Leeds United – Whites fans should feel excited

Leeds United are looking ever so likely to get promoted to the Premier League this season. The form and the level of consistency they have shown have convinced many that they are going back up to the top flight in the coming months. The talk of promotion has also led to discussions over what they would require in the summer to properly level up the squad for Premier League football. Leeds are expected to bring in an attacking midfielder this summer and have been linked with Emiliano Buendia and Gustavo Hamer. One more midfielder has also been on their radar and he has openly talked about the prospect of ending up at Elland Road.

The Whites sit at the summit of the Championship table and while promotion is far from secure at this stage, they have shown the consistency needed to go up this season.

Leeds United are aware getting promoted to the Premier League would be massive for the club but they need to ensure that they consolidate their position to become a regular feature in the top flight.

The struggles of Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton this season have shown that Leed would need to spend big but smart next summer to ensure that they have a squad ready to survive the rigours of top-flight football.

Leeds have been looking at bringing in a number 10 since the winter window and are almost certain to sign an attacking midfielder next summer as there are still question marks over Brenden Aaronson.

Eduard Spertsyan is one of the players the club are closely tracking and the Krasnodar attacking midfielder has now spoken about the interest from Leeds.

‘Why Not?’ – Spertsyan is open to joining Leeds United if they get promoted

Promotion would bring in more funds to Leeds and they are expected to have a big budget to spend next summer if get promoted at the end of the season.

Aaronson has been solid for Leeds in the number 10 role this season but his previous struggles in the Premier League and the need for better quality will lead to the Whites signing a new attacking midfielder.

A deal to sign Buendia is not off the table and Hamer has been identified as a potential alternative to the Argentinian star by the Yorkshire giants.

Leeds have also been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old Spertsyan for a while and a move in the summer could be on the cards.

The Armenian is open to the idea of joining Leeds given they seem to be going back to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Asked if he is keen on joining Leeds, Spertsyan told Russian outlet Championat: “Why not? They will most likely get into the Premier League, they are in first place.

“But Krasnodar are also in first place.”

Leeds were also interested in him in January but Spertsyan revealed that Krasnodar didn’t receive an offer good enough for them to accept in the winter window.

“Yes, I wanted to leave, but I couldn’t leave the club. For them to let me go in the winter, the offer had to be very good, and the club must have had a great desire to sign me.

“This winter, that’s exactly what didn’t happen.”

Spertsyan is wanted at some of the biggest clubs in Europe, if he chooses Leeds, it would be a coup

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has been impressing in the Russian Premier League for a while and is the club captain at Krasnodar.

He has scored 39 times and registered 28 assists in 133 appearances for Krasnodar and has been one of their most important players in the last few years.

His performances have attracted the interest of some of the biggest European clubs and Paris Saint-Germian are believed to be keen on taking him to the French capital.

Leeds have also been eyeing him and Spertsyan openly acknowledging the interest from the Yorkshire giants and talking up the prospect of moving to Elland Road is a massive boost.

The Whites need to earn promotional and then convince him to move to Elland Road over other options such as the more glamorous PSG in the summer.

However, Leeds fans should feel excited about the summer if the club are eyeing players of his ability and if he chooses the Yorkshire giants, it would be a huge coup.
