Leeds United are looking to wrap up automatic promotion to the Premier League in the last eight Championship games of the season. Promotion will inevitably lead to an overhaul of the squad and Leeds will need replacements for some of their current mainstays. Brenden Aaronson is a player many feel Leeds need an upgrade on and they could find the ideal replacement for him at a knocked-down price.
Aaronson has scored just once in his last 14 Championship appearances for Leeds and the last of his two assists came before Christmas last year.
The attacking midfielder’s willingness to work hard endears him to Daniel Farke and a section of the fanbase but his output in the final third has come to a standstill.
Leeds United are almost certain to sign an attacking midfielder if they get promoted as there is an understanding the United States international is not good enough to play in the Premier League.
And Leeds could have already spotted the player they want to replace Aaronson in the team if they get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Leeds United have a 24-goal contribution attacking midfielder on their radar
It emerged earlier this month that 24-year-old attacking Pavel Sulc has impressed the Leeds scouts with his performances for Viktoria Pilsen in the Czech Republic this season.
Sulc has been in terrific form for the Czech side this season and his performances have caught the eye of the Yorkshire giants ahead of the next transfer window.
The attacking midfielder has scored 13 times and registered eleven assists in all competitions, which is a far cry from what Aaronson has done this season.
He has also emerged on the radar of other Premier League clubs as well with Tottenham and Arsenal believed to be keeping tabs on the player ahead of the summer.
What should make Sulc more appealing to Leeds is that he is unlikely to cost a fortune and could be sold for as little as under the £7m figure in the next window.
He is set to enter the final year of his contract and Viktoria Pilsen are likely to sell him for a knocked-down price this summer.
He is the Aaronson upgrade Leeds need
Farke and a section of the Leeds supporters have defended Aaronson’s inability to be more creative in the final third by using his work rate as a shield.
However, Leeds would need more creativity in that area of the pitch if they get promoted as goals are going to be gold dust in the Premier League for a team looking to survive.
Can you name these 10 Leeds United players from the 2000s?
Sulc, who also has 10 international caps, has shown this season that he can score goals and is a far more creative player than the United States international.
Work rate is a nice attribute to have but Leeds will need their attacking players to score and assist more goals in the Premier League and Sulc has the track record to prove that he could make the step up to the Premier League.
