
Leeds United new boy Isaac Schmidt has admitted that it is a massive achievement for him to be at Elland Road following a difficult journey in his career.
The Swiss left-back completed a move from St. Gallen to Leeds in the dying embers of the summer transfer window when the clock was ticking towards the deadline.
Schmidt made his debut for the Whites last weekend when he came on for a brief cameo in Leeds’ 2-0 win over Cardiff City in Wales.
Junior Firpo is very much the first-choice left-back at Leeds but Schmidt is delighted that he has managed to join a club of the Whites’ stature and size.
The defender has already talked about wanting to experience the passion of the English fans inside the stadium but his journey to Elland Road has been long and hard.

The defender conceded that he was pleased when he heard that Leeds wanted to sign him and it means a lot for everyone around him given his career so far.
The Swiss admitted that it has not been an easy ride given the difficulties he faced in his youth and being at Leeds after such a tough journey makes him happy.
Schmidt stressed that once Leeds came calling it was easy for him to make the decision to move to Elland Road.
“I was so happy”, Schmidt told Leeds Live.
“A lot of people know where I come from. I had a really difficult journey in my career, even in my youth.
“To have a club like Leeds to come for me was a really great achievement already.
“When they came, it was clear for me I have to make everything to go there.”
Schmidt had offers to move to the top flight of Germany but he chose Leeds because of the size and the tradition of the club.
