Leeds United have found an unsung hero this season, and it has come in the form of Brenden Aaronson. The American international admitted early in the season that he did not know his future at Elland Road.
But he has slowly become a fixture in the first team under Daniel Farke. When the team switched from the 4-2-3-1 in the Championship, many were confused as to where the midfielder would play.
He was tried on the right wing, and even deeper in midfield before he found the perfect role dovetailing behind the two forwards in the 3-5-2. His run of form has seen him become the third top scorer for the Whites in the league this season.
Leeds United star praises Elland Road fans
Brenden Aaronson recently sat down in an interview to speak about his current form and life at Elland Road. He made sure to give a lot of credit to the fans who backed him even after a difficult start to the season:
“It meant the world to hear they’re backing me,” he says.
“I love this club, I love the fanbase.
“It’s amazing when you’re going to Derby away (in their recent FA Cup tie), and you have them louder than the Derby fans, and they’re sold out over there. It’s crazy.”

Brenden Aaronson has done well to turn his career around
No one would have thought one of the big money signings from 2023 would still be at the club. All of the big names signed under Jesse Marsch that summer forced their way out one way or the other. But Aaronson owes a lot to Daniel Farke; the Leeds boss decided to use the midfielder in a new role that ultimately unlocked the system and saw the Whites achieve promotion that year.
Improvement also comes from the player too, so the American international did well to get his best statistical season in Leeds colours, scoring nine league goals. Even after that, some fans were not completely convinced, with many tipping the midfielder to be sold in the summer.
But Aaronson has knuckled down and found his way into the first team. That central role in the new 3-5-2 has brought the best out of him, and this season, he has already recorded seven goal contributions in the Premier League. Some players complained and looked for a way out; Brenden Aaronson stayed and made the best of his situation.
