Leeds United defender Max Wober could undergo an operation to fix his knee injury and is expected to be left out of the Austria squad for the October international break.
Wober is yet to make a league appearance for Leeds this season and has missed the last two Championship fixtures due to a knee injury.
The defender sustained the injury during the international break this month but there was hope ahead of last weekend that could soon return to fitness.
Wober returned to training last week but failed to prove his fitness ahead of Leeds’ win over Cardiff City in the Championship last Saturday.
However, there could be more bad news in store for Leeds and Wober regarding his recuperation and rehabilitation process.
‘Operation under discussion’ for Leeds United defender
Journalist Peter Linden has provided a fresh update on Wober’s injury status ahead of Ralf Rangnick naming his Austria squad on Monday.
It has been claimed that the centre-back will be left out of Rangnick’s squad that will be in Nations League action in October.
It seems the spectre of Wober returning to the Leeds squad soon was an illusion as the defender is still very much not out of the doldrums.
It has been suggested that serious discussions are underway about the centre-back undergoing surgery to fix his injured knee.
The Leeds United medical team will take a call on Wober while assessing the defender’s injury over the next few days.
However, surgery is very much a possibility and Wober could be out for longer than previously anticipated.
Farke is expected to provide an update on the defender’s fitness in his pre-match press conference ahead of his team facing Coventry City this weekend.
Wober decided to stay at Leeds after spending last season on loan in Germany at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Wolves were interested in signing him in the summer but decided against meeting his wage demands.
