£3.8m Leeds United star pushed closer to Elland Road exit after brutal Daniel Farke snub

Leeds United active in the January transfer window as they seek to bring in reinforcements before the window closes on Monday evening.

The Whites have already improved their attack by signing Argentinian attacker Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton, but they want to do more in the coming days.

They have pushed hard to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen on a club-record deal. However, the Norwegian is now likely to join Crystal Palace, who have blown the competition out of the water with a £50m offer.

Daniel Farke has made it clear that he does not want to lose anyone from his squad. However, one of his decisions may have pushed a top star closer to the exit door.

Wilfried Gnonto snub at the weekend could end his time at Leeds United

Gnonto has lost his place in the team this season and has largely been used from the bench in the Premier League games.

The change in formation has also not helped the winger, as he doesn’t have a natural spot in a Leeds team playing in a 5-3-2 formation this season.

The Italian has made a few impactful substitute appearances, but even those cameos are quietly fading away as he continues to drop down the pecking order.

When Farke switched to a 4-3-3 formation against Everton on Monday night, Gnonto would have hoped that he would come on to make an impact on the team.

However, the Leeds boss threw Noah Okafor and winter signing Buonanotte into the mix while Gnonto remained an unused substitute.

The Leeds boss may have ruled out selling anyone, but the Italian has every reason to push for a move late in the transfer window.

He is just not playing enough, and it is not unnatural for him to feel frustrated and want to move on from Elland Road in the coming days.

Gnonto is likely to leave next summer

With Leeds missing out on Strand Larsen, Farke is likely to close ranks and is unlikely to allow any of his attackers leave before the end of the window.

The only reason Gnonto will stay at Leeds is that the Whites are unlikely to bring in any more forwards from now until the end of the transfer window.

However, he is almost certain to push for a transfer next summer, regardless of whether Leeds are in the Premier League or not.

The Whites have not received any offers for him in January despite interest from Saudi Arabia. But that will surely change in the summer window.

Gnonto is not a player who seems to have a long-term future at Leeds, and a departure at the end of the season seems like a certainty.
