3 Leeds United players who are at risk of losing their place in the team – £7.5m star could be sacrificed

Daniel Farke is under pressure to bring in the changes to the Leeds United team after their 2-2 draw at home against Swansea City this weekend. A couple of players could be dropped to the bench when the Whites travel to Luton Town on Saturday. However, one more key star could also lose his place in the team as Farke looks to jolt his players back to life for the remaining seven games of the season.

Leeds United have dropped points in four of their last five league games, and are facing a real threat of losing out on automatic promotion for the second season running.

Another poor performance against Swansea has led to soul-searching around Leeds, and Farke has been urged to stop indulging underperforming players and make some changes ahead of the next game away at Luton.

Here are the three players who could see their names missing from the starting eleven ahead of the Luton clash next Saturday.

Illan Meslier – Farke will lose more credit if Meslier is in goal for Leeds United next weekend

Meslier has been widely inconsistent this season, but Leeds fans have run out of patience and excuses for him after his Swansea debacle. The Leeds defence does not trust him, and the Whites need someone steadier in games where they have to grind out results. It is not wild to suggest that Leeds would have been on the cusp of promotion if they had a better goalkeeper in the team. Farke will risk ridicule if he persists with the Frenchman against Luton.

Joe Rothwell – Will have to make way for Ao Tanaka

Rothwell was better than Ethan Ampadu against Swansea. However, the Leeds captain looked not physically up to the mark and was definitely rushed in after he had just recovered from a knee injury. He has one more week to get fitter, and it is unlikely Farke will drop the Welshman if he is available to play. Rothwell will likely become the sacrificial lamb given that Ao Tanaka is almost certain to start against Luton.

Brenden Aaronson – He is not good enough for Leeds United

The American broke the scoring duck with a goal against Swansea, but beyond that, he had little impact. He ran around a lot and worked hard, but he was again ineffective in making Leeds more creative. With Wilfried Gnonto looking fit, it would be a surprise if the United States international is in the team at Luton.
