Leeds United fans thought they were going to have another quiet January window like they did last year in the Championship. The Whites have seen their transfer activity spark into life in the last couple of days.
Leeds managed to wrap up the signing of Facundo Buonanotte on loan for the rest of the season, adding more quality to the team in their fight for survival. And per reports, a new striker could arrive at Elland Road in the near future. Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, and Derby County’s Patrick Agyemang are the latest names that have popped up on the radar.
One of the more controversial deals to happen in this window is the exit of Jack Harrison. The winger left this week and joined Serie A side Fiorentina on a season-long loan. There were reports that Harrison was looking for a way out after a lack of game time this season, but no one actually expected a club to complete a deal for him.
Leeds United defender could be set for exit this month
Gazzetta dello Sport are now reporting that Fiorentina are now after another Leeds United player. The Italian media outlet believe the Slovenian defender is high on their shortlist of possible defensive reinforcements. Fiorentina are said to be ‘desperate’ to sign a new defender in this window.
There is almost zero chance Leeds will agree to a deal for Bijol at this part of the season. The defender has settled into the first team, and has played a key part in the back three since he entered the lineup.
Jaka Bijol could be tempted by move
While Leeds will be against a move, you cannot completely rule out Jaka Bijol being interested in a return to Italy. His start to life in England has not been the best, and he has still been adjusting to the team. It took a lot of factors for the Slovenian international to even become a starter in the first team.
Going back to Serie A is a familiar environment for the 26-year old, who would know that going there would immediately make him a starter in the first team. All Fiorentina need to do is convince him of playing time and make a very tempting loan offer for Leeds United to accept. But for now, it is unlikely that Jaka Bijol leaves abruptly in the middle of the season considering the form he is in.
