49ers close in on sack decision with Daniel Farke likely to learn his Leeds United fate this week

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is under pressure at Elland Road due to his team’s horror run of form. The 49ers are continuing to mull over whether to stick or twist with regard to his future at the club.

A run of six defeats in seven games will put any manager at a Premier League club under pressure. Leeds are 18th in the league table and staring down the barrel of relegation.

A good second-half performance in the 3-2 defeat at Manchester City has restored some confidence. However, Leeds have still lost four games on the trot and are in the bottom three.

Leeds are set to face an in-form Chelsea side at home on Wednesday night, and the Leeds ownership are likely to decide on whether to get rid of Farke in the coming days.

This is the decisive week for Daniel Farke at Leeds United

Farke was under pressure going into the Manchester City game, and that has not been released despite the second-half performance.

Leeds are still in the relegation zone, and are in the kind of freefall that could get hard to arrest if results do not improve in the next couple of games.

The 49ers were already considering other managerial options, and names such as Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou have been linked with the job.

The Chelsea game is going to be huge if Farke has to find a way to convince the Leeds owners that he deserves more time to get the team out of the rut.

However, another defeat at Elland Road on Wednesday night could more or less cast the die for the manager as that would fifth defeat on the bounce in the Premier League.

With Liverpool lined up to visit Elland Road next weekend, this week seems like the time when the 49ers will have to make a decision on Farke’s immediate future.

A couple more bad results, and the German is likely to be shown the door regardless of how good Leeds looked in the second half against Manchester City.

The 49ers cannot afford to delay their decision

The 49ers must learn from Leeds’ last relegation campaign in the Premier League, and decide before it gets too late.

Jesse Marsch got more time on the back of a fluke 2-1 win at Anfield, and by the time he was sacked, the damage to Leeds’ season was largely done in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 49ers must not get swayed by a good half at the Etihad, and must demand results from Farke this week if he has to survive in the Premier League.

Leeds are not cut adrift from the rest of the pack, and a new manager can still come in and have a fighting chance of keeping them in the Premier League.

However, if the 49ers delay the decision and Farke’s team continue to fail to impress, it may be too late to make any meaningful impact on the season by bringing in a new manager.
