49ers dealt major blow as Leeds United defender’s season may be cut short

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke decided to make some huge decisions in the summer when it came to the first team squad. The Premier League is a difficult competition and thus the team needed quality.

The club’s recruitment brought in 10 new players to compete for positions. During the summer window, some fans complained, but as the season went on it was clear that most of these signings helped the team. Anton Stach, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been solid additions to the first team and have played a big part this year.

Sadly, there were some major exits in the summer, especially Patrick Bamford whose time at the club came to an end. Farke also gave the green light for multiple first team players to leave, including Isaac Schmidt, Max Wober, Largie Ramazani and Mateo Joseph.

Leeds United man could be out for the season

Wober was no surprise to the Elland Road faithful; the winger went to local media during an international break last year to reveal that Leeds had told him to find a new club. He joined Werder Bremen in the summer on a season-long loan deal, mentioning in one of his interviews that he wanted to bounce back from not playing for most of the 2024/25 season.

Unfortunately for the Austrian, he got injured on his debut and has yet to play a competitive game since. Werder Bremen boss Daniel Thioune provided an update earlier this month on the Leeds United man, saying the club will not rush him back: “We have to be patient and give him time. Therefore, there’s no precise prognosis.”

German outlet BILD are speculating that the 28-year old will not feature again this season, with just eight games left.

49ers will be furious at transfer

The summer exit of Max Wober has been a complete disaster. Since the defender arrived in Germany, there has been no hope that he would be fit enough for Werder Bremen to consider a transfer. His injury record and lack of game time since last year basically mean that Leeds will have to make a loss on the player. No club will be willing to sign the Austrian at his current value. And with just one-year left on his current deal, the 49ers will have to accept letting him go for less than they paid, or allowing him to leave for free.
