A few weeks into the January transfer window and Leeds United are yet to make a move. It is very similar to what happened last year as the Whites did nothing in the winter window.
Fortunately for Leeds, they were able to win the league last year on their way to securing Premier League football. But this January is much different; even though the team are slowly moving away from the relegation zone, nothing has been set in stone. Nottingham Forest are still fighting, and West Ham have started making some moves in the market. Wolves are also stringing together some results, which should be a worry for the teams at the bottom.
The 49ers need to splash the cash for reinforcements in the coming weeks. Joe Rodon getting injured a few weeks ago showed how thin the club’s depth is in certain areas of the pitch.
Latest James Trafford development shuts door on Leeds United pursuit
One of the areas where there is concern at Elland Road is between the posts. Lucas Perri has not covered himself in glory in the last couple of games. Leeds had been linked with James Trafford in the summer, but the England keeper chose a return to his boyhood club Manchester City. However, the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma near the end of the window complicated things.
| Competition | Games Played | Minutes | Clean Sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 3 | 270 | 1 |
| Champions League | 1 | 90 | 0 |
| EFL Cup | 4 | 360 | 3 |
| FA Cup | 1 | 90 | 0 |
Now reports suggest Trafford might be on the move this month. But after the keeper’s heroics kept a clean sheet in the League Cup semi-final against Newcastle, Pep Guardiola admitted he wants the 23-year old to stay:
“No. I would like him to stay for many, many years. But the situation of the keeper is special and we will see what happens.”

Goalkeeping situation needs to be resolved
Leeds United must find a way to solve their goalkeeping problem; they thought Lucas Perri arriving would change things, but the Brazilian has had very mixed performances in goal. If the club was ruthless, they would sign a new goalkeeper this month for the rest of the season.
But as it stands, it looks like they will continue to have faith in Perri. Sometimes it is a dangerous game, but fans must hope that it does not end up like the Illan Meslier situation last year.
