49ers playing with fire if £16m Leeds United ace’s Elland Road exit is sanctioned

Leeds United

There are just a few days left till the end of the January transfer window, and it looks like business is not done at Leeds United. The Whites have made one deal so far, with no one knowing what could happen this weekend.

Leeds managed a draw against Everton on Monday night in the Premier League. And that game showed the need for a consistent finisher in the squad. But sadly, that dream could be over after the latest news concerning Jorgen Strand Larsen.

With just a few days before the winter window closes, some surprises could spring up at Elland Road, with this latest update having emerged this week.

Joel Piroe could be set for shock Leeds United exit

Leeds United added Facundo Buonanotte on loan till the end of the season, and launched an ambitious move for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. Now it is being reported that the Whites could see a surprise exit from Elland Road this month. Florian Plettenburg has reported that Joel Piroe is a serious option in the transfer market for Rangers.

The report indicates that the Scottish side have an eye on the 26-year old if their current move for Hansa Rostock forward Ryan Naderi collapses. And at this point in time, the German club do not want to budge on their stance on Naderi. Rangers are said to prefer a season-long loan for the Leeds United striker.

Losing striker would be a huge blow

Leeds United would be making a big mistake letting Joel Piroe go at this point of the season. And now with the deal for Jorgen Strand Larsen not an option, the club cannot stand to lose a center forward option. The 49ers made the big push to sign the Wolves striker, and even had a bid rejected, but Crystal Palace stepped in and took the lead in the race. Now, it is being reported that the Whites are not willing to match the 25-year old’s valuation.

Joel Piroe is not the best option for Leeds in the Premier League, but at the very least he provides some depth for the club. Outside Piroe, Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the only serious options. And looking at their injury records, if one of them is out it could be a huge blow. Lukas Nmecha has been in and out of the team with knocks this season, and fans feel like it is only a matter of time before he picks up a long term problem.
