49ers should ditch Jorgen Strand Larsen deal in favour alternative £40m striker

Leeds United

Leeds United are moving forward with their plan to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norwegian international is available for a huge fee that the 49ers are hoping to seal.

Reports indicated that the player’s camp offered him to many Premier League clubs, which drew interest from Leeds. The Whites had already sealed a move for Facundo Buonanotte in January. Leeds fans were surprised that the ownership went all in on such a move, but with other relegation-threatened teams beefing up their squad for the second half of the season, they could not sit idly by.

Another reason for signing Buonanotte was that Leeds let Jack Harrison leave on loan to Fiorentina. After an initial rejected bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen, the Whites are still hoping to conclude a deal before the end of the window.

Leeds United should pursue £40M striker ahead of Jorgen Strand Larsen

Wolves are adamant that they want their £40 million asking price, with the latest offer being around £33 million and £6 million in add-ons. Sources at Elland Road are confident a deal can be sealed soon, with Daniel Farke waiting for the striker to arrive in the first team. But for now, the 25-year old is still playing for his club as a deal is being worked on.

But in the event a move does not pan out, Leeds should consider changing options. Per multiple reports, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is also available for the same price range. He has made it clear that he wants to leave Crystal Palace. The eagles are having a very horrible window after losing club captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City. Mateta would be a long shot, but for the money Wolves are asking for, Leeds United could easily pay the transfer fee for the French international. Palace are also looking for close to £40 million. As to whether the 28-year old would prefer to join a team fighting for safety, is a whole other topic.

Mateta is also a much better option that Strand Larsen, which raises a lot of questions why more clubs are not after the Frenchman considering his current valuation.

Everton game shows need for a clinical finisher

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a huge impact for this team, and has done very well to hit nine league goals. But in games where Leeds need a breakthrough, he often goes missing. Against Everton on Monday night, he spurned a glorious chance to give his side the win. Leeds ended up drawing the game; and many fans know that if the club did have a striker like Jorgen Strand Larsen or Jean-Philippe Mateta, the result could have easily changed.

High probability after dealine day the 49s will issue a statement to say – ‘We tried our best ro sign a new player but with PSR restrictions we could only do so with a structured deal the selling club was not prepared to accept.Farke is confident the current squad will secure survival.’ I will be amazed if they manage to get Lasen or anyone else in
