£4M Leeds United man blows big opportunity – He’s likely to be dropped for Oxford United game

This weekend was perfect for Leeds United fans, the Whites took one step closer to promotion, while one of their rivals fell and lost key points.

With four games to go this season, Daniel Farke’s men are closer to the Premier League than ever. 88 points after 42 games is an incredible feat considering what happened before the season. Leeds lost key players in Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter.

Goals from Manor Solomon and Jayden Bogle were enough to seal all three points against Preston at Elland Road. Leeds’ home form this season has been impeccable. Their points tally at their home ground has been one of the huge reasons they are close to winning the title.

Leeds have already lost crucial players to injury with four games to go. Pascal Struijk has been ruled out till the end of the season with a ligament problem. Dan James is also struggling with a hamstring problem and could yet miss more games.

Wilfried Gnonto started against Preston with James missing the game. And he showed why Daniel Farke has not really trusted him much this season. The Italian international showed that he is still not ready to be a consistent starter after Saturday’s game.

Former Leeds man Paul Robinson suggested that Daniel Farke find ways to use him as a starter:

“He’s got to find a way to put Willy Gnonto in that side, and I think that the fact that he’s had such an impact when coming off the bench has been to his detriment.

“Farke knows that he’s got that player, that if that situation, like against Swansea, arrives and they need somebody to come off the bench with a spark, he knows that he’s got that in Willy Gnonto.” he said to MOT News.

Inconsistency is Wilfried Gnonto’s problem

Gnonto has popped up with really important goals and cameos off the bench this season, but whenever he has started, the results have been quite erratic.

The forward has just one goal in his last nine games, hardly fit to be in this Leeds attack as a regular starter.
