Leeds United have welcomed six new faces to Elland Road this summer. The club have really had a well-planned out transfer window so far.

Daniel Farke recently spoke on how the club aimed to recruit for the Premier League. Most of the signings this summer have been 6ft or taller, as Farke emphasized aerial ability. He claims that to survive in England, your team needs to be very good in both boxes, attacking and defending.

Leeds have also signed three players from the Bundesliga this summer. Graeme Bailey stated earlier in the window that the club’s link to Red Bull makes identifying targets in the region easier:

“They [Leeds] are ahead of many other Premier League teams when it comes to German-based talent. So, it’s not a surprise, you know, it’s not going to be a huge surprise. If there’s a good one, Leeds know all about it.”

Daniel Farke’s experience in Germany, and the Red Bull network have worked well so far. Just last year, the club signed Ao Tanaka who became a revelation for the club. The Japanese international was a bargain signing, but ended up winning Leeds Players player of the season away at the end of the season.

Earlier this summer, the Whites were linked with a move to Julian Weigl – a former player under Daniel Farke. The news eventually died down. But now, the midfielder has finally spoken on a potential move to Elland Road:

“For me, there was never a reason to think about it too much. That’s still the case,” Weigl said.

“If something really, really special were to come along, we could deal with it. Perhaps, at the end of our careers, America might be of interest to my wife and me again. I wouldn’t rule that out.”

Club are not signing more central midfielders

Looking at Leeds’ plans for the rest of the summer, attackers are the priority. It looks like the club have recruited enough to bolster the midfield ahead of next season. A core of Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff should be enough for the team in the Premier League.

Leeds need a playmaker in the middle

Leeds may not add another central midfielder, but an attacking midfielder could be a possibility. Recent reports suggest that the club are monitoring the situations involving Emi Buendia and Gustavo Hamer. PSV are reportedly pondering a move for the Sheffield United star.
