Two of the three signings Leeds United have made this summer have come from Germany. The last two seasons under Daniel Farke have also seen them recruit from the country.
Last season saw Leeds sign Ao Tanaka, who played a massive part in the club’s promotion to the Premier League. The Japanese international won the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award last season.
Fans have been wondering why the focus on Germany this transfer window. Graeme Bailey revealed that the club’s affiliation with Red Bull means they have an advantage over most clubs in England.
“They’re ahead of many other Premier League teams when it comes to German-based talent. So, it’s not a surprise, you know, it’s not going to be a huge surprise. If there’s a good one, Leeds know all about it.”
This could have been the reason why Leeds snapped up Lukas Nmecha on a free this summer.

Nmecha, Bijol and Bornauw have already made their way to Elland Road. The club are set to ramp up their activity after completing three signings this summer. Leeds are finally set to make their fourth addition of the window.
The Yorkshire Post has reported that Gabriel Gudmundsson has arrived in England for further talks with the club. The Swedish international was in training with Lille last week, which fuelled rumours that he was staying with the French club. Leeds have been major admirers of the 26-year old for a while.
Fullback depth at the club still needs filling
Sam Byram and Junior Firpo are officially free agents as of last week. Both players failed to sign new contracts with the West Yorkshire club. Firpo has already announced his departure, with reports saying he is headed back to Spain to sign for Real Betis.
This has left the club’s fullback depth a bit thin. Jayden Bogle and Isaac Schmidt are the only first team options available in the position. And Schmidt’s agent has hinted at a possible exit this summer.
Gudmundsson can replace some parts of Firpo’s game
Junior Firpo was really an engine of this Leeds United attack. Flying down the left flank; Daniel Farke put him in the perfect role. He could arrive in the box to deliver crosses and score goals.

Gabriel Gudmundsson is much different from Firpo, he is a more possession-style fullback who can keep the ball and carry it. But his productivity is very low, which indicates that he plays a much different role at Lille.
