Lionel Messi is probably the most famous name in world football, and his 2022 World Cup triumph with Argentina was widely celebrated. However, it seems one former Leeds United hero is not a fan of the player and his family’s influence off the pitch.

Messi has been at Inter Miami since 2023 and is probably the biggest name in the MLS. He has drawn American crowds to the stadiums and remains the league’s biggest selling point.

The Argentinian has been a massive influence on the pitch, scoring 66 goals and providing 32 assists in 78 appearances for Inter Miami, and is by far the best player at the club and in the MLS.

However, his influence off the pitch is rubbing people the wrong way, and Mateusz Klich, who was in the United States until recently, has shared some secrets that he has heard from people at Inter Miami.

‘Do not go to Inter Milan as long as Lionel Messi is there’ – the former Leeds star

Klich came up against Messi as an opposition player when he was plying his trade for DC United and Atalanta, but he has heard stories about Inter Miami.

The former Leeds star feels players should avoid Inter Miami as long as Messi is at the club, as the Argentinian has an outsized influence on the club.

He stressed that the forward’s father is basically in charge of everything at Inter Miami, and it’s a disaster off the pitch, as many are leaving the club due to the Messi family’s influence.

Klich insisted that there are better options in the MLS at the moment than joining Inter Miami, which is situated close to an hour away from Miami itself.

“I don’t recommend Miami as long as Messi is there”, Klich was quoted as saying by Foot Africa.

“It’s a disaster. People are leaving, coaches and physiotherapists are leaving.

“From an organisational point of view, it’s bad. It’s basically Messi’s father who runs the club. Everyone speaks Spanish, and nothing can be done without their approval.

“The club itself is also located 45-50 minutes from Miami.”

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United strikers?
