Adam Pope confirms latest Harry Gray transfer development

Harry Gray spent last season on loan at Rotherham United, but it proved to be a tough campaign as the club suffered relegation from League One.

The 17-year-old was one of the few positives in an otherwise disappointing season, producing enough promising performances to reinforce Leeds United’s belief that he has a bright future ahead of him.

However, Daniel Farke feels Gray’s development will be better served by another year of regular senior football rather than keeping him around the Premier League squad. As things stand, another loan move is the most likely outcome this summer.

Gray will still return for pre-season and be allowed to impress the coaching staff, but Leeds’ intention is for him to spend the 2026/27 campaign out on loan. At present, two League One clubs are leading the race to secure his signature.

Sheffield United are interested in signing the forward this summer, with Chris Wilder prepared to provide him the platform to develop in the Championship.

However, it emerged earlier this week that a pair of League One clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, are the ones who are pushing to sign him.

And BBC Radio Leeds reporter Adam Pope has confirmed that the two League One clubs are leading the race for the 17-year-old Leeds striker this summer.

He insisted that several clubs are interested in signing the striker on loan, and Gray will definitely leave Leeds to spend another season on loan for his development.

Despite interest from the Championship, Gray is likely to spend one more season in League One as Leeds look to continue his development.

Another League One spell on the cards

Gray impressed despite playing in a struggling League One side last season, and many expected Leeds to look for a step up in level for his next loan spell.

Interest from Sheffield United fuelled speculation that the teenager could be heading to the Championship, but it now appears another season in League One remains the preferred option.

Leeds are understood to want Gray at a club with genuine promotion ambitions that plays an attacking brand of football, giving him the right environment to continue his development.

There is also a feeling that he would be more likely to play regularly at that level. At a club like Sheffield United, where Chris Wilder will be under significant pressure to secure promotion, opportunities for a young striker could be much harder to come by.
