Alan Shearer was quick to poke fun at Micah Richards following Newcastle’s dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds United.
Whilst Leeds supporters’ heart rates will still be calming down from the chaotic game they witnessed on Wednesday night, with Shearer being one of those pundits who felt Leeds were hard done by with the late penalty they conceded in stoppage time.
Following the penalty that was dispatched by Bruno Guimaraes, Harvey Barnes went on to score a late winner as Brenden Aaronson’s magnificent performance for Leeds ultimately led to nothing.
However, with Shearer rubbing the victory in the face of Richards and Leeds supporters, they may not be ready to move on from the disappointment quite yet.
Alan Shearer aims playful jab at Micah Richards after Leeds loss
Richards claimed that whilst he was watching the Leeds game, he knew the hosts were going to get back into the game, and the former Manchester City right-back was unfortunately proven right.
Richards, who is from Leeds, often backs his hometown club and speaks highly of them on The Rest Is Football Podcast, but on the latest episode, he couldn’t even begin to discuss the game before Shearer began to chime in.
The Newcastle legend sang his own sarcastic version of marching on together before laughing and encouraging his co-host, Richards, to join in, which he refused.
With Leeds agonisingly missing out on an opportunity to extend the gap between themselves and West Ham in the bottom three, fans will not appreciate Shearer poking fun at their misfortune.
Leeds have perfect opportunity to bounce back from Newcastle defeat
Whilst the FA Cup fixture with Derby will be seen by Daniel Farke as nothing more than an opportunity to give fringe players minutes and get other injured members of his squad back up to speed, the Whites’ next Premier League clash is massive.
United host Fulham at Elland Road on 17th January, which, on paper, looks to be a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.
Whilst Leeds’ overall unbeaten run may have come to an end against Newcastle, Farke’s men are unbeaten in their last four matches at Elland Road.
However, with just one win in their last seven matches, Leeds will not want to leave it too much longer before putting another three points on the board.
