Legendary striker turned pundit Alan Shearer has released his Premier League Team of the Week – and it includes two Leeds United men in the form of Illan Meslier and Jack Harrison.
Both were members of the Leeds XI when they left Molineux with all three points after beating Wolves 2-4 on Saturday.
Harrison opened the scoring in the West Midlands, turning in Wilfried Gnonto’s cut-back cross in the game’s sixth minute. His goal was his second in as many Premier League appearances.
The Englishman also played a pivotal role in Leeds’ third goal of the game, as it was his cross which Wolves left-back Jonny Otto failed to deal with properly, allowing Rasmus Kristensen to dispossess him and slot home after just 23 seconds on the pitch.
As for Meslier, Saturday’s appearance between the sticks marked a personal milestone for the talented Frenchman, who became the youngest goalkeeper to play 100 games in England’s top-flight.
The 23-year-old rose to the occasion: despite conceding twice he also made several vital saves to keep his side in the game – denying Wolves striker Raul Jimenez’ close-range strike being a particular highlight of an impressive afternoon.
Leeds’ victory on Saturday saw them climb out of the Premier League’s relegation places to 14th in the table, just one point behind Wolves with a game in hand.
