Leeds United may be in the battle for survival at this point of the season, but their form is far different from a struggling team. Despite their loss to Newcastle United, the Whites are in a good position.
Sitting eight points clear of the relegation zone after 21 games is impressive. No one really gave Leeds a chance over a month ago when their losing run saw them slip into the danger zone.
But after results in the past few weeks, everyone around the club believes they can clinch safety.
Alan Shearer gives West Ham relegation verdict
Alan Shearer thinks that West Ham will be one of the big teams to go down this season. The Hammers are in 18th place, eight points behind Leeds United, and from what the former Newcastle United striker has seen, they are not going to turn their season around:
“It was a massive result for Forest, West Ham, I thought they did alright first half, I think they were the better team but you can just tell they’re so fragile at the minute and once they were under pressure, I guess they’ll feel it was a harsh decision for the penalty… disaster for West Ham and it’s looking very, very likely that the three that are there, are the three that are going to go.”

Leeds United are the best team near the bottom of the table
There are about five teams that will surely be battling relegation from now till the end of the season. And it has become very clear in these last couple of weeks that Leeds United is the best among them. Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Burnley and Wolves all arguably have better resources and players but the Whites have been performing much better.
It is down to the atmosphere at Elland Road over the last month; since the team starting stringing points together, they go into each game with no fear. They have comeback from goals down in games against Liverpool and Brentford to get draws. And going to Anfield to shut out the Reds only showed how good this team has been playing.
Farke and his men have to keep up this run of form regardless of their last defeat. If they can pick up a few more points over the next month, then survival is a realistic prospect.
