Former Leeds United star David Prutton has insisted that Leeds United and Burnley’s promotion credentials will get tested when they face each other at Elland Road on Saturday.

Leeds are a point and two spots ahead of Burnley in the Championship table but both teams have been tipped to be contenders for automatic promotion this season.

The Whites seem to have recovered from a bad start to the season and won back-to-back league games with clean sheets ahead of the international break.

Burnley went through a massive churn of players in the summer with as many as 21 players leaving the club and they are also staring at a potential injury crisis with nine players expected to be out for the game against Leeds.

However, their game on Saturday is being billed as the clash of the big guns in the Championship and Prutton conceded that it’s a massive game this early in the campaign.

Prutton believes we will see where Leeds United and Burnley are at this stage of the season

The former White admitted that the two sides are grabbing eyeballs ahead of the game because of the weight of expectations on the two teams.

With both Leeds and Burnley getting touted as contenders to get promoted to the Premier League, the two sides have things to prove when they face each other at Elland Road.

“A really cracking game so early in the season because all the eyes are on these two”, Prutton said on the Essential EFL podcast.

“They are expected to be at least in the top six if not the top two and on Saturday we will see where they are at, in this work in progress.”

Leeds have been tipped to win on Saturday because they look more settled than Burnley who are still recovering from the squad upheaval they went through in the summer.
