Almería coach admits team lacks ‘spark and electricity’ found in Leeds United newcomer

Leeds United bolstered their attack this past summer with the addition of Largie Ramazani. Moreover, Almería manager Rubi noted that he wasn’t keen on the 23-year-old leaving, considering the type of player they lost.

The Whites lost Crysencio Summerville this past summer transfer, leaving a significant hole in their attack. Last season, the 22-year-old made 49 appearances across all competitions, generating 21 goals and 10 assists.

With Summerville now with West Ham, the question was how would Leeds replace this offensive production as the club attempts to earn promotion to the Premier League after failing last season.

Late in the summer window, Leeds brought in Ramazani, who had spent the past five years playing in Spain, to improve the left-wing position following Summerville’s departure. The English club reportedly paid €11.7 million for the total package with add-ons included and a 15 percent sell-on clause, per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Almería boss already misses Largie Ramazani

In an interview with a Spanish outlet, Rubi stated that Ramazani has his flaws as a young player but that his current squad is missing a couple of key traits that are exclusive to the winger that no one else has currently.

Moreover, the club likely has to look from within to replace the Leeds standout as Almería also pushes for promotion back to La Liga after being relegated last season.

“We don’t have a winger like Ramazani,” Rubi told Diario de Almeria (h/t HITC). “It’s true that he’s a player who can make mistakes in his decision-making, but we don’t have players with that spark and electricity in the squad.

“In the medium term, if we don’t get a replacement, we’re looking to train a player from the reserve team or the youth team who can make the jump. But the idea is to look for a player with that profile on the market in time.”

The former Manchester United youth player played in 128 matches across all competitions for Almería, scoring 22 goals and registering nine assists. Ramazani will look to bring those traits that made him successful with the Spanish club and help Leeds with their promotion push this 2024-25 season.
