Carlo Ancelotti and former Arsenal star targeted by Leeds United – Three-man shortlist for Whites job revealed

Leeds United gained promotion to the Premier League last week after Sheffield United failed to beat Burnley. Now, the club have to focus on working this summer to prepare for their return to the top flight.

Daniel Farke and the recruitment team need to be operating around the clock to figure out the best additions to the squad. There could be also be major departures in the summer. Junior Firpo has been heavily tipped to leave after a new report said that Leeds are open to letting him walk for free. The 28-year old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it does not look like he will be at Elland Road past this summer.

Another shocking potential departure could be Daniel Farke. Recent reports over the past few weeks claim that Leeds are looking into replacing him before the club returns to the Premier League. Farke addressed the rumours in his last press conference:

”It’s not suprising. I knew what kind of club I signed. It’s normally a good effort if you last three months in this club.

You know when you sign a contract there is a lot of pressure. Often that someone is linked. It’s nothing new or not expect.”

According to The Guardian, there is now three main names being linked to the Leeds United job. Let us take a look at the options.

Davide Ancelotti to Leeds United

One of the major names being linked is Real Madrid assistant coach Davide Ancelotti. He is the son of Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. The 35-year old has not held a first team job yet, but he has a wealth of experience serving as an assistant at Bayern Munich, Everton and Napoli. The Athletic recently reported that Davide Ancelotti is ready to start his coaching career.

Roger Schmidt

Schmidt would also arrive at Elland Road with a wealth of experience and a decent CV. The former Benfica coach has won trophies in Portugal, the Netherlands and Austria. Roger Schmidt also has experience in the Champions League, which could come in handy in the Premier League.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Van Bronckhorst is second after Davide Ancelotti in terms of experience. The former Arsenal star only began his managerial career in 2015. He has managed to win a decent amount since then. The 50-year old has coached Rangers, Besiktas and Feyenoord. He has won the Scottish Cup, Turkish Super Cup and the Eredivisie.
