Andrea Radrizzani reveals how much Leeds United’s value has increased since he became chairman

Andrea Radrizzani was the man who started the revolution that took Leeds United back to the Premier League. But as far as he’s concerned, getting Leeds back to where they belong was just the beginning.

Following promotion to the Premier League, the San Francisco 49ers have chosen to increase their stake in the club to 37% and in turn, inject a massive cash boost into the club. Leeds finished 13^th in the Championship in Radrizzani’s first season as chairman, but the Italian entrepreneur decided to go all out in his second season by appointing renowned tactician Marcelo Bielsa as head coach. Radrizzani recently commented that “Leeds is very close to my heart, it is a warm investment. The intention is to still be here for a long time and develop an important club.”

It’s clear that Radrizzani has an emotional attachment to the club which is great to see for Leeds fans, given the issues they’ve had with ownership in the past. Radrizzani bought the West Yorkshire club in 2017 for approximately £45 million and immediately got the fans on his side when he bought back Elland Road, but from a financial perspective he must be licking his lips. Radrizzani claimed that the club’s value has shot up when he remarked “The value is around £300 million following the investment from the 49ers.” This means that the value of Leeds United has increased by £255 million since Radrizzani purchased the Whites.

That’s an astonishing increase in value but Radrizzani doesn’t want to stop there, claiming that “This club can become a club just after the top 4.” These are lofty ambitions that will have the fans excited, but financially he also has admirable expectations “It can be worth more than £1 billion with a new stadium after 5 to 7 years increasing the revenue and a solid place in the Premier League.” It’ll be interesting to see what his plans are with regards to this new stadium; either way, if Radrizzani’s vision is to be realised then there should be even more exciting times ahead for Leeds fans and with Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, anything is possible.
