Archie Gray wants shock transfer according to reports

Spurs midfielder Archie Gray is set for a loan move in the January transfer window.

The former Leeds United midfielder joined Tottenham in the summer for a huge fee. Gray experienced a breakout season last year. He won the Leeds Young Player of the Year award and was named in the EFL Championship team of the year.

Daniel Farke has been battling injuries in his team this season, Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev have been injured for most of the campaign. Because of that, the club brought in free agent Josuha Guilavogui for midfield depth. The club is still in the market for midfielders in January and one name has popped up.

Archie Gray has been linked with a sensational return to Elland Road. The midfielder joined Spurs in the summer, but has failed to break into the starting lineup. He has made 11 appearances this season but has yet to start a single Premier League game.

Spurs are reportedly anticipating loan offers from clubs in January. Don Goodman has suggested that the teenager would prefer a move to Elland Road over a move abroad:

“Spurs will look at the levels in LaLiga, the style of play Sevilla play, and will compare that to Archie coming back to the Championship,” Don Goodman told MOT Leeds News.

“Leeds are a top team but would it be better for him to be in a league that is probably more technical than the Championship? He ultimately needs game time at a technical team, which is what Spurs are.

“That leads to a conundrum for Spurs. If he’s given the choice, you’d imagine he’d prefer to go back to Leeds because they have a part of his heart. But it’s a footballing decision and it’ll likely be taken out of his hands.

“Spurs have to do what they deem to be best for the player’s development. If that’s in LaLiga with Sevilla, that’s their gift to have.”

Midfielder would be the perfect signing in January

With Leeds United needing some creativity in midfield, bringing Archie Gray back may be the solution. The midfielder has played under Daniel Farke, so adapting to the team would not be an issue. A potential loan would be a win-win for Spurs; Gray would get playing time in a familiar environment. And if Leeds are promoted, he could join them again. Two seasons of consistent first team football would prepare Archie Gray better for a career at Tottenham.
