Leeds United were last promoted to the Premier League back in 2020. The season they returned to top flight football was one of the best in the club’s recent history.

The team went all out in the transfer market to back Marcelo Bielsa. Leeds shopped in Europe’s top five leagues adding players like Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno. Ultimately, the club’s attacking style was what kept them in the Premier League as they finished in the top half.

Leeds finished in ninth place, scoring 62 goals. 17 of those goals were scored by Patrick Bamford. That season, the striker benefited from the creative brilliance of Raphinha and Jack Harrison in the team.

In 2020, the club needed a striker that scored 17 Premier League goals to secure safety, and this summer, the story remains the same.

Leeds United interested in Serie A star

Patrick Bamford is on his way out of Elland Road, the striker is now old and recent seasons have shown he can barely stay fit.

That, among many other factors is why Leeds are looking to sign a new striker. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Whites are interested in adding AS Roma star Artem Dovbyk. The Italian club are looking to offload him, and have put a £30million price tag on him this summer.

Besiktas are said to have a concrete offer on the table, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Leeds and West Ham are said to be seriously interested in a move.

Roma already looking for a replacement

It looks like Roma are determined to move on from the Ukrainian this summer. Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund is the priority target if Dovbyk leaves. The club have already brought in Brighton forward Evan Ferguson on loan.

Roma sporting director Frederic Massara is a big fan of the Danish international.

Dovbyk could become an immediate starter

Despite having what many would consider a ‘down’ year, Dovbyk managed to score 12 goals in 32 Serie A appearances. The Ukrainian also managed a few goals in the Europa League. Dovbyk is far from a bad player, and could fit in what Leeds are looking for ahead of next season.

He fits the physical profile, he is tall and is a perfect fit for the target man role. The Roma man looks like he would fit well in the physicality of English football. Leeds should consider signing him for that price.
