On Saturday night, Leeds and Aston Villa butted heads for the second time this season as Villa avenged their earlier loss this season with a 1-0 win at Elland Road. The two clubs have both impressed this season with many believing it might not be long until they secure European football.
Both clubs have signed impressive players on the road to where they are now and clearly have a keen eye for talent as well as men who will fit their style of play. And it has been revealed Leeds were sniffing around a midfielder who now plies his trade at Villa Park.
Morgan Sanson joined Villa in January for a fee of around £16 million and has been tasked with enhancing what the Birmingham side bring from the middle of the park. Since joining he’s already made four Premier League appearances.
But it was nearly very different with the midfielder revealing that there was a very real interest from Leeds last summer. However, he admitted the move didn’t occur because he felt it simply wasn’t the right time to leave Marseille.
He told French television channel Canal+, “Since I was little I have always had a special affection for this championship [the Premier League]. Aston Villa are a big club in England, but it could have been another club the summer before. There was Leeds who were interested, but I felt that was not the time.”
Clearly now is the time and he played a part in defeating Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday for new club Aston Villa. But what next for the French midfielder? Can he force his way into the French first team? Would he have been better off at Leeds?
