Leeds United sit at the summit of the Championship table and are poised to return to the Premier League at the end of the season. There is anticipation of Leeds earning an automatic promotion and it has led to speculation over what they would need to do in the summer to give themselves a proper chance of survival in the top flight next season. Leeds are almost certain to sign a striker or two in the next transfer window and they have already been linked Premier League forwards. A few are eyeing a move to Elland Road if the Whites go up and it seems a Leeds target is prepared to join the Yorkshire giants in the summer.
Daniel Farke has been trying to ensure that his players remain grounded and focused despite all the noise coming from the outside about an anticipated promotion to the Premier League.
However, even the Leeds United manager has kind of acknowledged that his side are closing in and claimed that 20 more points from the last 13 games should book their tickets to the top flight.
It is almost certain that the recruitment team are already planning to play in the Premier League next season and have been accordingly identifying targets for the club.
Leeds need a striker and they have already been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Callum Wilson who is believed to be keen on staying in the Premier League.
The Whites made a bid to sign Cameron Archer from Southampton in the winter window and have been linked with rekindling their interest in him.
Cameron Archer wants to join Leeds United in the summer
In a bid to add to their forward line, Leeds tried to sign Archer in January but Southampton rejected their loan plus option to buy offer for the striker.
Archer has scored two goals in the Premier League in 22 appearances this season and has struggled to make an impact in the top flight like most of his teammates.
Southampton are almost certain to get relegated back to the Championship but the forward wants to continue in the Premier League and Leeds appeal to him.
According to TEAMTalk, Archer would be keen on a move to Elland Road if Leeds could agree a fee with Southampton for him in the summer transfer window.
With Leeds likely to go up, the striker sees them as an opportunity to have another crack at proving himself in the Premier League and wants to join the Whites.
It is unclear whether Leeds would be prepared to rekindle their interest in the forward if they get promoted to the top flight at the end of the season.
Even if Leeds sign him, the club will likely look to bring in a more natural number 9 to bolster their goalscoring options in the summer.
Leeds should steer clear as Archer doesn’t seem good enough for the Premier League
Several strikers will get linked with Leeds in the coming months and the club are certainly keeping tabs on many attacking options.
If Leeds go up to the Premier League they will need to add players who are good enough to score a certain number of goals in the top flight next season.
Goals are gold dust for teams getting promoted and Leeds would want to add someone who has a proven track record in the top flight of English football.
Can you name the season these 10 Leeds United shirts are from?
However, it is certain Archer is not that player. He has started in ten games in the Premier League this season and has netted just two goals in a combined 22 appearances in the top flight.
There is nothing to suggest that the forward will take his game to the next level at Elland Road and Leeds cannot afford to take a gamble, especially on signing a goalscorer.
He could have been a good signing in the Championship but in the Premier League, the Whites will need better quality with some track record of scoring goals at that level.
