After impressing in Leeds United’s return to the top tier, Patrick Bamford was rewarded with a first ever call up to the England squad and over the weekend made his debut for his national side.
It’s impossible to say he doesn’t deserve it after all he fired Leeds to promotion in 2019/20 before scoring goals for fun in the Premier League. In fact, Harry Kane was the only Englishman to score more goals than the former Middlesbrough striker last season.
That said, his international debut wasn’t as eye-catching as he’d have liked. He certainly didn’t receive the service he’d have wanted in the 4-0 win over Andorra and was withdrawn from the action when England began to truly dominate.
Nonetheless, it appears he’s settled in the England camp going off some of the friendly banter seen on social media from his international teammates.
Take Jude Bellingham for instance. The former Birmingham man has set the Bundesliga alight and looks like England’s next star player impressing at the Euros despite turning 18 during the tournament.
Interestingly, he used his youth to poke a bit of fun at Bamford on Instagram. The midfielder posted a picture of him with his arm round Bamford on his story with the caption “looking after my son” despite being 10 years his junior. The cheeky comment perhaps points to the fact that Bellingham is more experienced than Bamford at international level despite his young age or perhaps is simply about the age gap between the two players. Either way, it was clearly a joke amongst mates proving that Bamford is well and truly settled in the England camp whilst reflecting the positive atmosphere in the dressing room.
Bamford didn’t remain silent on the matter sharing it on his own story with the caption “wow.”
