Barcelona made desperate attempt to sign Leeds star

Leeds United’s Rodrigo was the target of a surprising enquiry from Barcelona, according to Jota Jordi.

Jordi appeared on El Chiringuito to explain Barcelona’s attempts to find a striker this summer, with a shock twist in the conversation outlining the interest for Leeds striker Rodrigo.

Luuk de Jong eventually signed for Barcelona from Sevilla on deadline day on a season-long loan, but the Dutchman was not at the top of the Catalan club’s priorities.

“We already know that they have ended up signing Luuk de Jon because Ronald Koeman’s target was a nine,” Jordi said.

“He spoke of and wanted De Jong, but Barca have been making moves for many weeks looking for a nine.

“Among others, for example, they have spoken to Cavani, and last week Mateo Alemany was in Manchester asking for Sterling. The answer was no.

“He was also in Leeds asking for Rodrigo, but again the answer was no.”
