Leeds United have taken care of business against another side near the bottom of the Championship table after a 3-0 win over Coventry City on Saturday at Elland Road.

The Whites had 10 total shots in the first half, while the away side had zero. Leeds opened the scoring in the 16th minute, courtesy of a goal from Wilfried Gnonto, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.

After halftime, Leeds dialed back the number of shots, taking only three, but that was enough to secure two insurance goals. Jayden Bogle made it 2-0 with a goal in the 49th minute, and Joël Piroe again came off the bench to score in his second straight match with a goal in the 79th minute.

Leeds praised for performance against Coventry

While the second half left much to be desired from an attacking perspective, the squad did score two more goals to wrap up the victory and three points. Moreover, the defense kept a second straight clean sheet. After the match, the BBC’s Adam Pope reacted to how he viewed Leeds’ performance in the win.

“Efficiency,” Pope wrote on X. “Goals & clean sheets. Very consummate performance in all departments. A bit in the tank for two big away games this week too with subs made towards back end.”

Daniel Farke and his team must turn the page on this contest as they’ll have a Tuesday clash against Norwich City; then, on Friday, the Whites face Sunderland.

The highlight of this stretch of games will be the matchup against Sunderland, who currently sit second in the table. It’s a great chance for Leeds to prove they can compete with other promotion contenders.

So far this season, Daniel Farke’s side has drawn with West Bromwich Albion and suffered a loss to Burnley, so a win over Sunderland would be a much-needed boost.

Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier mentioned that while many fans have the Sunderland match marked on their calendars, the team is focused on taking things one game at a time. They’re not looking too far ahead and know the importance of securing three points, no matter who the opponent is.
