Leeds United’s injury problems are worsening following their 1-1 draw against Norwich City on Tuesday night at Carrow Road. However, positive news is coming from this result due to a player’s performance.

The Whites conceded the first goal of the match to Josh Sargent in the 15th minute. Norwich went into halftime nursing a 1-0 lead, but in the 60th minute, Wilfried Gnonto connected with Largie Ramazani to level the scoring for the away side.

Although the team didn’t deliver its best performance, it secured a point. Gnonto stood out by looking dangerous throughout the match. Leeds still have a tough road ahead, with a match on Friday night at Stadium of Light wrapping up three games in just a week.

They’ll be up against promotion rival Sunderland, and both teams will be aiming to secure all three points to hinder their opponent’s chances of clinching one of the top two automatic promotion spots.

Wilfried Gnonto earns praise for performance against Norwich

Former Norwich standout Dean Ashton was blown away by the Italy international on the night. He notes that whenever Leeds looked dangerous, it was due to Gnoto’s play.

“So elusive is Gnonto, tonight he has been absolutely terrific,” Ashton said on BBC Norfolk (h/t MOT Leeds News). “He is involved in everything good for Leeds going forward.”

Jonny Cooper from Opta also highlighted on X that Gnonto had an impressive performance against Norwich, recording four shots, creating five chances, and making 12 touches in the opposition box.

This makes him the first Leeds player to achieve those stats in a single league match since the 2013-14 season, according to Opta’s records.

Following the Sunderland contest, Leeds will catch a break with the FIFA international break. However, some players will be heading out to their respective national teams, and the risk of injury will worsen the situation.

It will be interesting to see if this break hurts the positive momentum that Gnoto has going with Leeds. Heading into this season, there were concerns over where the Whites would get their offense, and right now, Gnoto is raising his hand to help and is ready to chip in.
