Squad building is key when preparing for the Premier League. Leeds United sealed promotion last year, and the recruitment team have a huge task on their hand in the transfer market this summer.
Leeds will have to add serious quality to the team if they expect to survive in the top flight. This season, all three promoted teams were relegated. This is the second year in a row that the three newly promoted sides have gone straight back down. The Whites will be wary of not repeating the mistakes Ispwich Town and Southampton made.
The two teams spent a lot on players in the Premier League and Championship, but were still relegated. Daniel Farke will work closely with the recruitment team this summer, and will be tasked with bringing in quality players.

The Leeds boss will also assess his current team to see who is good enough for the Premier League. This may lead to some departures this summer. Regardless of the quality of the team, Leeds will have to move some players to balance the books to avoid PSR sanctions.
Speaking of quality, BBC Sports’ Adam Pope has made a very interesting observation of the current Leeds United squad. He believes that there are around seven players who will be good enough to play in the Premier League:
“Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Dan James I believe will cope in the Premier League,”
Pope continued: “Willy Gnonto has the potential to be fulfilled, whilst Joel Piroe’s finishing is top drawer even if he may lack the lightning pace one associates with the top-flight,” he added.
Leeds definitely need more quality
The Premier League is a difficult competition. There is a large quality gap anytime teams are promoted. The only way to close that gap is to add quality. Leeds were able to do this back in 2020, when they added the likes of Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno.
This time around, players are more expensive and so the club have to buy these stars at a premium cost.
