Former Leeds star Ben White leaves England World Cup camp

Ex-Leeds and current Arsenal defender Ben White has left England’s World Cup camp in Qatar, the FA has confirmed.

In a statement released by the English FA on Wednesday night, it was stated that the 25-year-old had left the camp for ‘personal reasons’. He is not expected to return to the camp.

The full statement from the FA:

“Ben White has left England’s training base in Al Wakrah and returned home for personal reasons.

The Arsenal defender is not expected to return to the squad for the remainder of the tournament.

We ask that the player’s privacy is respected at this moment in time.”

White played for Leeds United on loan in the 2019/20 season, making 46 appearances as Leeds won the promotion to the Premier League. He joined Arsenal after impressing in his first full Premier League season in 2021.

The defender made Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the World Cup after his impressive start to the season with league leaders Arsenal. White was yet to feature in the tournament, failing to add to his four appearances for the Three Lions at international level.

The details behind the decision to leave the England camp have not been stated, but we hope the Leeds faithful will stand with Ben White no matter what.

England face Senegal in the round of 16 on Sunday after finishing first in Group B.
