Bielsa reacts to Bamford England call-up

Gareth Southgate announced his 25-man England squad yesterday afternoon and to the delight of Leeds United fans, Patrick Bamford made it into the squad for his first ever call-up.

Bamford undoubtedly deserved it, not only did he score more goals last season than any English player not named Harry Kane, but his work rate and movement are elite and Southgate has clearly been impressed by him.

Bielsa has now commented on Bamford’s achievement whilst speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Burnley. “He’s made a lot of effort to be called up. From my point of view he deserves it. I hope it’s the start of his evolution as an international player.

Much like when Kalvin Phillips earnt his first England call-up at a similar time last year, Bielsa will feel an immense sense of pride in Bamford’s call-up. The improvements in his all-round game since Bielsa arrived are clear to see, and hopefully Bamford can show the world what he can do on the International stage.
