Leeds United’s latest operations restructuring will involve a big move for Daniel Farke.
There has been a lot of movement involving football operations around the club in recent weeks. The major news being Gretar Steinsson moving up the leader to work with 49ers Enterprises. Steinsson left his Technical Director role at Leeds United to join 49ers Enterprises as executive global football structure after just over a year.
There was also major news after Steinsson’s departure; Jordan Miles left his role as Head of Recruitment. Alex Davies, who was Head of Scouting, was also moved up to replace Miles as Head of Recruitment.
Miles left his role at Leeds United after joining this February. He was in similar roles at Aberdeen, West Ham United, Derby County and Ipswich Town. Alex Davies had also spent over 13 years at Leeds United as an analyst.
Adam Underwood and Nick Hammond will also remain in their current roles as head of football operations and club transfer consultant respectively.

Daniel Farke could be involved in recruitment shakeup
After Steinsson was moved, and some reshuffling was done in the recruitment department, 49ers Enterprises have decided not to hire a new technical director. They reportedly believe the team in place is good enough to oversee transfer activities.
According to Nancy Froston, Daniel Farke will have a “big role” in transfers moving forward. The report in The Athletic says that Farke’s involvement in transfers will continue to be crucial under the 49ers. It has been revealed that Farke was behind the signing of Ao Tanaka. The Japanese international has been the standout signing this summer, and recently won the club’s Player of the month award for October.
Leeds had nine arrivals and 13 departures in the summer of 2023 and eight arrivals and 11 exits in the summer 2024 window. Nick Hammond was said to be responsible for overseeing most of these deals. Hammond has been credited with signing Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea for just £7million.
What does this mean for Leeds United?
The restructuring of the recruitment department has been a great start. Leeds United have had to clear out a lot of players over the last two seasons. The club is still moving players from their last major transfer spend in the summer of 2023.
Farke’s input was key to brining Ao Tanaka to the club. The midfielder has been the brightest spark of Leeds season. With the Leeds boss important to the transfers at the club, the fans can expect more quality additions.
