Burnley beat Sheffield United to hand Leeds United promotion – Elland Road will host Premier League football again

Leeds United did what they had to do on Monday against Stoke City, but it was the result in the following game that ended up deciding their Premier League place.

Joel Piroe hit four goals as Leeds smashed Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road. Heading into this game, the Whites were yet to lose a game at their home ground. The home advantage played a big part as Leeds brought wave after wave of pressure on the potters.

After the game, Daniel Farke said his side should have scored a seventh goal:

”…Perhaps a seventh goal! Not really not much I could ask for. How the lads have handled the last few weeks, crunch time, they way we performed and the spirit – is second to none.

We played a side who were in red hot form. With our foot on the gas we could have perhaps scored more. Credit to the boys. A priceless three points today.” via LeedsLive.

Burnley took on Sheffield United later on Monday, after Leeds had secured their three points. A result from the Clarets would all but seal promotion. Chris Wilder was adamant over the past week that his side will keep fighting to stay in the promotion race.

Eventually, Scott Parker’s men won at Turf Moor to also book their place in the Premier League. With two games to go, all that is left is who will win the Championship.

Club will have to be aware of recent fates of promoted clubs

In the last two Premier League seasons, all three promoted sides have been relegated. This season is set to be more of the same, as Ipswich Town are just one game away from being relegated.

Leeds United will need to analyse their team and see who fits Premier League football. The transfer window needs to address all the areas of weakness, as top flight football is intense.
