Callum Wilson discusses future amidst Leeds United links – Newcastle offer pending

It has been no secret that Leeds United are keen on signing a new striker this summer. As the club prepares for the Premier League, they know they need key experience.

Adding some firepower alongside Joel Piroe seems to be the priority. Leeds’ attacking options are low on Premier League experience, which could be why the club is looking to Callum Wilson and Jamie Vardy as potential additions this summer.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe indicated over the weekend that the Magpies will hold talks with Callum Wilson over a potential extension in the coming weeks. Leeds are very interested, and are keenly monitoring the situation.

The striker recently opened up on his career so far, and his future plans on the High Performance podcast:

“You go from being first choice striker to then being second choice striker,”.

“…Then obviously my role changes and you have to put your pride and ego to the side, put the team first and know what the team needs in that moment.”

“…It’s difficult, but I think I’m getting the balance right. I’ve gone through dips and all sorts of emotions, especially being out of contract in the summer.

“There’s a lot of emotions throughout this season that have been different challenges to face and new challenges that I’ve never faced before.”

Wilson is yet to make a decision on his future this summer.

What is the verdict on Callum Wilson?

It might be a a cliché answer, but it can go either way. Wilson could choose to remain at St. James’ Park especially after Newcastle secured Champions League football which could give him more playing time.

On the other hand, he could also take Leeds’ offer. He himself has mentioned that playing as the number two behind a main striker has not been ideal. Wilson still has some power in his legs, and could give Leeds the goals in the Premier League this season. All he has to do is listen to what Daniel Farke and the Whites have to say.
