Callum Wilson transfer claim made amidst Leeds United interest

Leeds United made their fourth signing of the summer this week. The club are slowly building a quality squad to compete in the Premier League next season.

As a newly-promoted squad, your players are the most important thing when you reach the Premier League. If your fail to recruit quality players, it could go against you. Last season saw Ipswich Town spend millions on players from the Premier League and Championship and still get relegated.

Leeds have strayed from that path looking at the business they have done so far. All four signings have been from Europe’s top leagues – it may not be the Premier League, but the quality is on a similar level.

Gabriel Gudmundsson is the latest player to arrive at Elland Road, the left back joins from Lille in Ligue 1.

Leeds United still looking for a new striker

The club have now signed three defenders and one attacking player. Lukas Nmecha was a necessary addition as Joel Piroe lacked competition last season. Gudmundsson also comes in to replace Junior Firpo, who left on a free transfer. Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw also bolster a defence that conceded 30 goals last season.

Sources at Elland Road have pointed out that Leeds will be in the market for a new center forward. This makes a lot of sense, as the club cannot go into the Premier League relying on Patrick Bamford as backup.

Pundit tips Callum Wilson to make move

One of the strikers that have been linked with a move to West Yorkshire this summer is Callum Wilson. The 33-year old is now a free agent after leaving Newcastle United. He is likely to join another Premier League club for next season, and talksport pundit Andy Jacobs has hinted at a destination:

‘he’s got West Ham written all over him’. That may or may not be true – we’ll find out.”

Leeds are better off with other alternatives

Callum Wilson at this point in time should not be a target for Leeds United. His age, injury history and recent performances have not been the best. Add that to the fact that his salary at Newcastle was reportedly around £110,000-a-week, a move for Wilson is not a smart move.

Leeds’ recruitment has emphasized signing very good players from top leagues in Europe, and so far, all of them have been below 30 years. The club is better off looking elsewhere for another center forward.
