Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been an incredible signing so far, after the 28-year-old arrived at Elland Road on a free transfer over the summer.
The towering forward has already found the back of the net on nine occasions in the Premier League so far this season, and it’s fair to say that Calvert-Lewin has already exceeded expectations at Leeds.
The Englishman is not the only striker at Leeds to have exceeded expectations this season, with Lukas Nmecha also enjoying a successful spell in West Yorkshire, after his last-minute winner against Fulham took his Premier League tally this season up to five goals in just 627 total minutes.
However, the Leeds player that Calvert-Lewin spoke to before making the move is certainly an unexpected one that is sure to shock supporters.
Calvert-Lewin spoke to Jack Harrison ahead of Leeds move
Harrison recently left Leeds for the third time when he joined Fiorentina on loan until the end of the current campaign.
Despite the winger being a far from popular figure at Leeds, this did not stop Calvert-Lewin from consulting him regarding a potential move to the Whites, as the striker revealed during an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Obviously, I spoke to Jack Harrison, played with him at Everton. And then it all happened so quickly, and I was keeping things so in-house, because there was a lot of noise around me at the time,” Calvert Lewin said.
“Between, really, my wife and I, we came to the conclusion that this was the right place for me, having the conversations with the club, and yeah, we made that decision together.”
Considering the fact that Harrison chose to leave Leeds twice previously to join Everton on loan, it is surprising that he, of all people, was someone that Calvert-Lewin spoke to ahead of moving to West Yorkshire, even if the pair were former teammates.
Leeds may have to convince Calvert-Lewin to stay come the end of the season
It’s a reality that no Leeds supporter will want to think about, but if Calvert-Lewin can keep up this goalscoring form from now until the end of the season, other clubs may become interested in securing his services.
Premier League Top Goal Scorers – 2025/26 Season
| Player | Goals |
|---|---|
| Erling Haaland | 20 |
| Igor Thiago | 16 |
| Antoine Semenyo | 10 |
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 9 |
With Calvert-Lewin not costing anything, the 49ers would be in line to make a handsome profit if another club put a bid in for Leeds’ talisman that they couldn’t refuse in the summer; however, the decision to sell Calvert-Lewin would definitely rile up the Elland Road faithful.
If United want to properly establish themselves in the top-flight, adding more players of Calvert-Lewin’s quality to Daniel Farke’s squad has to be a top priority for the 49ers moving forward.
