Leeds United scored 95 goals in the Championship on their way to winning the title this season. Now, the Whites face a much greater prospect in the Premier League.

Leeds United target breaks silence on his future

Leeds’ search for firepower in attack saw them linked with Celtic star Daizen Maeda. The Japanese international has been in phenomenal for at club level. There were reports that he is set for a move this summer, but Maeda has now opened up on his future:
“I was in great form both personally and with the team. I’d like to keep it up next season.” reports the Daily Record.
“I’m who I am because of my team. I’d like to thank my teammates, and above all, my family for supporting me so far.”
Maeda also reflected on his career since he arrived in Scotland.
“My career really took off here in Mito. When I first came to Mito, I thought, ‘No one can run at all!”.
“My forte is sprinting multiple times during a match and running for 90 minutes straight. I came to Mito and learned about not wanting to lose games.”
Celtic are believed to be holding out for a fee around £25million. This would match the initial fee Brighton paid for Matt O’Riley last summer. There is belief that Maeda could even cost much than that, which would be a club record.
Maeda might be too expensive
Compared to Leeds’ recent targets at center forward, Maeda might be too expensive:
- Jamie Vardy (Free Agent)
- Callum Wilson (Free Agent)
- Nikola Krstovic (£21million)
- Cameron Archer (£15million)
The Whites do need a new striker, but the fee Celtic might demand may be too high. And the club need to address other areas of the squad this summer.
